Searching for the Dimensions of Today’s Political Incivility

Incivility in public discourse is a central concern for scholars and citizens alike. However, the definitions of concept offered by are dissimilar difficult to compare. This research, which adopts an approach based on citizens’ perceptions incivility, addresses this issue empirically testing three-dimensional model political incivility. The findings survey 797 students track differences specific types uncivil speech show that incivility consists concept, is, as “impoliteness,” “individual delegitimization,” “institutional delegitimization.” Future studies can use corroborate these results verify whether composition holds up other contexts.
